Q1 Recap; and Getting Started with Q2

 Salvete, Spartanae Familiae!

4th Grade

Q1: We learned a lot of vocabulary in our first quarter. We started with our Familae and also learned Patriae, Animalis, Numeri, and started to learn some Adjectivi. We ended our quarter by making collage storybooks about Romulus and Remus.

Q2; Looking ahead: We'll finish our collage storybooks and start talking more about nouns, their different genders, and the different jobs they can have in a sentence. We'll also talk about historic Roman festivals as we head into our own festive season!

5th Grade

Q1: In 5th grade we started by learning vocabulary, word order, and following Caecilius and his family through the town of Pompeii. We finished our quarter strong by translating the story Mercator and learning about the social customs of ancient Pompeii.

Q2; Looking ahead: We'll wrap up Stage 2 in our textbooks and start Stage 3, here we'll learn about Negotium and what it looked like to be a businessman in 79 C.E. We'll learn 60 new vocabulary words and talk about historic Roman festivals as we head into our own festive season!

6th Grade
Q1: We settled into the routine of Latin and hit the ground running by reviewing the first 6 stages of our Cambridge textbooks. We did lots of translating with stories like Cerberus and Venalicius, reviewing concepts like Noun Cases and Verb Tenses. We finished our quarter by translating Fabula Mirabilis from Stage 7; a spooky story just in time for autumn.

Q2; Looking ahead: We'll wrap up Stage 7 and start looking at Stage 8, Gladiatores, where we'll learn about Gladiators and encounter Accusative Plural Nouns by translating four different stories! We'll also add 60 more vocabulary words to our repertoire.

It's been a good start here in 4th - 6th Latin, and it's hard to believe we're already starting Quarter 2. As always, if you have any questions you may contact me at emily.riedlinger@greatheartswesternhills.org.
